PAGE 48 AMEN
From a prayer by Lee xxxxxxx
"Having asked you for it in Jesus name, I believe it will happen, and I thank You in His name. Amen. When Lee says he asked "in Jesus name" does he mean that he was overcome by the Holy Spirit and actually prayed in the power of the risen Christ ? |

in WRITINGS FROM THE PHILOKALIA ON PRAYER OF THE HEART. Whosoever shall do and teach- the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:19). May the Almighty God in His munificence give you strength and help you to hear all this with understanding and practice it with zeal. |
or did he add "in the name of Jesus" because he wanted it to be ?
Is Lee presuming to have prophetic insight into how his request fits into God's overall purposes ? When Lee said "Amen" was he saying "Amen" to his own will or was he saying "Amen" to God's sovereign will ? We should give our full "Amen" to God's will. |
For, according to the divine Paul: " Not the hearers of the law are just before God,
but the doers of the law shall be justified' (Romans2:13) May He lead you to all good and saving deeds, and by the prayers of the saints may His Spirit guide you in the sacred mental work which is before you. AMEN.. Callistus and Ignatius were able to give their Amen from the heart |
AMEN TO GOD'S SOVEREIGN WILL |
for you their readers. They meant what they said and their prayer is still valid.
You have been prayed for by Callistus and Ignatius and I add my Amen to their prayer. AMEN with UNDERSTANDING and with ZEAL. |
GOD FOR US THE TRINITY AND THE TRINITY Catherine Mowry La Cugna
When Jewish and Gentile converts gathered together in the fellowship of the Spirit to remember (anamnesis) and to celebrate the paschal mystery, they typically offered praise and honour and glory to God through Christ. |
Matt18:16 in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.
2nd Corinthians 13:1 in the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established. As in Deuteronomy 17 : 6 At the mouth of two witnesses. . . . . . . . . . . . |
In the credal fragment of 1st Corinthians 8:6 For us there is one God ,
The Father, from whom all things are and for whom we exist, and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom all things are and through whom we exist. But in the context of worship, Christians are enjoined to give thanks "to God the Father at all times and to do everything in the name of |
Matthew 18 verse 19. "If two of you agree here on earth. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
it is the Lord Jesus who is speaking. . . . . . . . . . He is talking about unity in prayer. . . . . . . The one who prays to God for all men is a first witness to God's power.. |
the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him (Col 3:17) "
The epistle to the Romans opens and closes using the same pattern: "First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you " (Romans 1 ; 8 ) and "to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever (Romans 16;27). |
The one who prays "AMEN" with complete and appropriate intent, not only confirms but validates the prayer of the first witness.
The one who answers "AMEN" is the second witness to God's power and is the second witness to the promises of Jesus (Matthew 18-19) and a second witness to the will of the Father (Matthew 14) Unity is enjoined by the "AMEN" of the second witness. |
That the pattern was retained in early communal worship is shown in
2nd Corinthians 1:10 For in him every one of God's promises is a yes, For this reason it is through him that we say AMEN, to the Glory of God. AMEN TO THE GLORY OF GOD THROUGH JESUS CHRIST |
John 8:17 ;- Your own law says that if two people agree about something
their witness is true. If we perceive even slightly the magnitude of God's love, every one of us will affirm God's will with confidence , with joy and with deep satisfaction. The AMEN of the SECOND WITNESS |
