We seek the divine through ideas, images, symbols, and attentiveness to human experiences. This is known as the Kataphatic way from the Greek word meaning "with images".

c a statement of the nature and causes of the misfortune
d a prayer for deliverance Suffering or disaster of any kind may provide the occasion for a lament, but the underlying motive for the prayer is not the disaster itself but the alienation from God which it produces. LamentationTHE PRESENT REALITY
THE GOD WHO SAVES PRAISE |
Lord of the Sabbath And He said to them;
"The Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath. " LUKE 6:5 |
The prayer of Lamentation, even if made by only one person, is on behalf of the people of God, by God's covenanted people.
The logic of Lamentation starts with the real situation-- life's experience. By rescuing us from distress and revealing himself as SAVIOUR, He hears our groans and becomes the object of our praise. |
The Lord Your RedeemerWith everlasting kindness I will have mercy on you
Says the Lord, your Redeemer. ISAIAH 54:8 NKJV |
We must overcome the feeling that to lament is wrong--
We are declaring our desparate need of God. Lamentation is made with confidence: God has chosen Israel, He chose us in CHRIST, and He is unchangeable in his loving kindness. |
Thus says the Lord your Redeemer
The Holy one of Israel: Who teaches you to profit Who leads you by the way you should go. ISAIAH 48:17 |
