.....of our prayers and the offering of our lives in the service of Christ. .....of our prayers for others -- that they too may be strengthened in their faith and love for our Lord. .....and a symbol of all those who, through the ages, have shone as lights in the darkness of the world, and of their prayers for us .....that this is a place of prayer. |
Listening PrayerPrayer is a communication with God, and communication is a two-way street.
To have good communication we must speak and listen. We hear a great deal, but we listen very seldom. |
MakerThe rich and poor have this in common
The LORD is maker of them all. PROVERBS 22:2 |
In communicating, the person who has the most important message should
have most time. Now, in prayer it is quite obvious who has the important message; therefore, we should spend much more time in listening to God than in speaking to him. Since what God has to say is far more important, the first requisite for prayer is |

that we learn to listen. We feel that to just sit or kneel and do nothing is a waste of
time. Waiting and listening seem to be so impractical. That is why the psalmist reminds us; "Be still before the Lord and wait patiently on him (Psalm 37:7 RSV) As long as the focus is on ourselves, we will have difficulty hearing God in prayer. Our focus has to be on God. God wants to speak to us. |

LOCUTION
A locution may be from God or from an evil spirit or from the persons own hyperactive imagination. It is the auditory parallel of what are commonly called Visions. THE PRACTICE OF THE PRAYER OF SIMPLE LOOKING
It will be necessary to pause deliberately before prayer is begun to "look". The awareness of the Divine Presence that is effected by this glance will be less vivid in the beginning and will be far from continuous. It must be patiently renewed when it fails. |
Mediatorthere is one God and one Mediator between God and men,
the Man CHRIST JESUS. 1st Timothy ch 2 verse 5 NKJV |
The "Glance" is the foundation and strength of attention. When the soul looks while praying it is engaged by the Person of Whom it is aware. To occupy oneself with the
simple consciousness of God, the simple awareness of His Presence without any other thought is itself a prayer, and a deep prayer too. The Divine Partner to prayer has the means to present Himself in ways beyond any power of man. |
