CollectCollect or Opening prayer
After the Penitential Rite.... After the Lord have mercy.... After the gloria,......... The priest invites the people to pray, and together they spend some moments in silence so they may realise that they are in God's presence and may make their petitions. The priest then says the prayer which is called the opening prayer or collect. This expresses the theme of the celebration and by the words of the priest, a petition is addressed to God the Father through the mediation of Christ in the Holy Spirit. The people make the prayer their own and give their assent by the acclamation, Amen From the Weekday missal. |

COLLOQUAYColloquay is a term that describes the intimate conversation between the Father and me, Christ and me or the Holy Spirit and me. This conversation happens on the occasion of my putting myself as totally as I can into the setting of prayer: I speak or listen as God's Spirit moves me-as sinner-as a child of God- as supplicant or as intercessor. A Colloquy takes place as I respond within the setting.

PRAYER IN COMMONIt is desirable that Christians should join in prayer with their separated brethren of other denominations.Such prayers in common are certainly a very effective means of petitioning for the grace of unity, and they are a genuine expression of the ties which still bind Catholics, Anglicans, non conformist and Eastern Orthodox Christians. It is to be hoped that Christians who are separated will join
in prayer for any common concern in which they can and should cooperate. e.g. peace social justice community thanksgiving, each other, unity ....and so on. COMMON PRAYER |

In the sacred liturgy the "common prayer", in which the people take part, prayers of intercession are made for holy Church, for civil authorities, for those oppressed by various needs, for all mankind, and for the salvation of the entire world.
In Common Prayer, besides the petitions for the Church, the world and the needy, it is good to add some special intention for the local community. |
